Artisans

The book has full length interviews with 22 artisans in all 6 prefectures of Tohoku. The book also profiles other aspects of Tohoku culture, to bring you a visual guide to Northern Japanese rural culture. Includes hundreds of photos of kokeshi, from traditional to modern styles, as well as hotsprings towns, landcapes, numerous festivals and local culture.

This book is the only English language book with interviews with actual craftsmen. Asides from kokeshi culture, the interviews are reflective of the traditional Japanese system of craftsmanship, and the psychology and philosophy of the shokunin (artisan).

The book will be available from July 2013, in time for a Kokeshi charity event we are planned in conjunction with Japan Expo in Paris.
